As a longtime skater I have always wanted to create a board design. Tony Hawk is an icon of the skating industry and has created a global empire which has only contributed to is massive popularity and help keep the sport alive. To create a board design for him would be a great honor and wonderful opportunity to contribute to the skating community. 

I sketched out ideas after researching Tony's previous designs going all the way to his days with Powell. I felt it crucial to incorporate T/H style hawk head into the design. The beak barrows from previous hawk skull designs and also seemed an essential brand element to maintain. The background represents a digital conversion of the hawks feathers - continuing on with the hawk theme. Colors and textures were pulled from past boards to maintain brand cohesion. The smoke and narrow squinted eyes represents the un-wavered commitment to sticking a trick that only a skater knows.  

The production was a combination of sketchbook, Photoshop and Illustrator. The final artwork is all vector to maximize reproductivity across multiple mediums. 

Final Design

This last iteration is a complete custom design and a culmination of research, personal experience as a skater, and my interpretation of a possible evolution of the Tony Hawk brand onto a new board for his new App.
